Academic Purpose Courses
IELTS
Students seeking admission into international universities and colleges in Australia, the U.K., Singapore, Malaysia, Switzerland and even the United States require an “International English Language Testing System (IELTS)” score. There are two IELTS modules:
- The “Academic Module” is designed for students planning to continue their higher education studies abroad.
- The “General Training Module” is for students wishing to emigrate or enroll in vocational training courses. This is used for immigration purposes.
The IELTS examination tests four skills:
- Listening;
- Reading;
- Writing;
- Speaking.
IELC offers 20 hour, 40 hour, 60 hour and 80 hour courses that focus on developing the student’s skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking. Students are given advanced techniques to tackle the IELTS tasks and are also given supplementary grammar and vocabulary activities designed to prepare them for specific IELTS topics. IELC has a proven track record in preparing students for IELTS and many of IELC’s alumni students have not only achieved success in their IELTS examinations, but have continued to succeed in their studies abroad.
Students can take the IELTS test at various official test centers located throughout Indonesia including IDP Jakarta, Medan, Bandung, Semarang, Denpasar and at IELC Solo (http://ielc-indonesia.com/lang/en/ielts/).
TOEFL
IELC offers two TOEFL courses:
- The institutional paper-based TOEFL course, which is required for entrance into international programs at Indonesian universities such as Universitas Pelita Harapan, Bina Nusantara, Petra, Atmajaya and Parahyangan.
- The Internet based iBT TOEFL, which is required for admission into international universities in the United States, Canada, Singapore and other foreign countries
The paper-based TOEFL consists of four sections:
- Listening;
- Reading;
- Structure;
- Writing (this section is not tested in local institutional exams).
The iBT TOEFL includes a speaking section and “integrated skill” sections that combine more than one of the above skills in the same task. Scores range from 0-120 and the test takes four hours to complete. Registration for the iBT TOEFL test can be conducted on-line.
