IELC’s Teachers

IELC employs a talented team of qualified native-speaker and non-native speaker teachers who combine IELC’s wealth of resource materials with innovative teaching methods to provide students with the highest quality of language tuition available in the region.

Students are given opportunities to practice and produce the skills presented in class. Feedback on student performance is given to ensure that the student’s language and communication skills are constantly developing. IELC’s teachers are committed to providing students with the individual care and attention that they need to become competent, confident speakers of English.

AMANDA RAHMADI

Hometown : FLORIDA, UNITED STATES

Joined IELC : 2013

Amanda is from Florida, USA but her husband is from Solo. She met her husband in the United States and returned to Solo with him in 2011, She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching English from Ashford University, USA and has English Teaching Certification from TOEFL International. She is currently doing a Masters Degree in Adult Education. Amanda joined IELC in 2013.

HARUM NATALI

Hometown : SOLO, INDONESIA

Joined IELC : 2006

Harum graduated from the Faculty of English Letters at Sanata Dharma University in Jogja with a Degree in English Language and Literature. She spent many years in Jakarta teaching English at various language schools and lecturing in the English literature faculty at BINUS university. Harum joined IELC in 2006 and has helped thousands of students to excel in the IELTS and TOEFL exams. She teaches all levels and also designs IELC’s merchandise.

NICK VIANA

Hometown : TORONTO, CANADA

Joined IELC : 2015

A love for teaching and a passion for travelling has brought Nick to Solo. Growing up in Canada with Portuguese and Indian ethnicity means his mentality is a mix of East & West. Nick holds a Diploma in Marketing and another in Business Administration. Nick recently completed a Trinity Cert TESOL. Nick’s work background consists mostly of sales, however he also has experience in private tutoring, summer camps as well as editing for an Australian magazine. Nick visited over 20 countries and will continue to travel in his free time as there’s nothing he find to be more rewarding.

ELISABETH KRISTIANA

Hometown : SRAGEN, INDONESIA

Joined IELC : 2006

Lisa was born in Jogja but she now lives in Sragen. She is a graduate of Santana Dharma University where she studied English Language Education. She lived and studied in California, USA and after returning to Indonesia she worked as an English teacher at Permata Bangsa School in Semarang. Lisa joined IELC in 2006 and is one of IELC’s experts on teaching young children.

BROOKE GABRIEL NOLAN

Hometown : SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA

Joined IELC : 2016

Brooke was born in Sydney, Australia. She has attended Sydney University, the University of Western Australia, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang and Humboldt University, Berlin. She has a Masters Degree in Anthropology and a TEFL certificate. She is currently finishing her PhD thesis. Brooke has taught English in Jakarta, Palembang, Thailand, China and the Czech Republic. She writes articles for online publications such as Inside Indonesia and has also worked as an English-Indonesian translator at the Ubud Writer’s Festival. In 2015, Brooke completed her first triathlon and second half-marathon

HERRY PRANOTO

Hometown : SOLO, INDONESIA

Joined IELC : 2007

Herry is originally from Solo. Although he studied architecture at Atma Jaya University in Jogja, Herry’s natural talent for English resulted in his becoming an English teacher. He joined IELC in 2007 and has taught thousands of students of all ages and levels. Herry is a self-taught grammar expert and is always happy to explain difficult grammar rules to IELC’s teachers and students. He is also one of IELC’s leading IELTS and TOEFL experts.

“As a child, I used to watch a lot of Kungfu series with bad English dubbing. That was the beginning of my interest in the English language! Now I teach English but I don’t use Kungfu in my classes.”

TOBY PHILLIPS

Hometown : SOMERSET, UNITED KINGDOM

Joined IELC : 2016

Toby is from Bridgwater, Somerset in the UK. He taught for 3 years at English Academies in South Korea. Toby has a Bachelors degree in Forensic and Crime Scene Science from Bournemouth University. Over the past few years he has traveled around Southern Africa, Australia and East Asia.

Daniel is from Solo. He has a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from STBA Lia in Jogja. In 2008, Daniel moved to Exeter in the UK where he studied advanced English for one year. He is currently completing his Masters Degree in Translation at UNS Sebelas Maret University. Before joining IELC in 2014, Daniel taught at the UNS Sebelas Maret language center.

Hometown : VIRGINIA, UNITED STATES

Joined IELC : 2016

Jon is from Virginia, USA. He has a Bachelor’s Degree from The College of William and Mary and a Cambridge CELTA Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. He has been living in Solo for 6 years. In his free time, he enjoys playing with his son and studying Gamelan music when he isn’t playing video games or watching movies.

LIGAR SETYADI

Ligar was born in Salatiga. He attended Satya Wacana University and graduated Cum Laude with a degree in English Language and Literature. He taught English at Kota Bahasa in Salatiga before moving to Solo in 2014 to work with IELC.

TREVOR COOKE

Hometown : OTTAWA, CANADA

Joined IELC : 2017

Having grown up on the border of English and French Canada, language learning has been a constant in Trevor’s life. Having had his formal education in an immersion setting, Trevor understands the importance of utilizing only one language in class, in this case English! . Trevor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from McGill University. Trevor has had a desire to teach English since his late teens.

Christian is originally from Pekalongan. He has a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature from Satya Wacana Christian University where he graduated Cum Laude. Before joining IELC in 2014, Christian taught English at the Bina Bangsa Semarang International School.

Nenny

NENNY HIMAWAN

Hometown : YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA

Joined IELC : 2014

Nenny was born in Yogyakarta, but she now lives in Solo with her husband. She is a graduate of Sanata Dharma University Yogyakarta in English Education and she has been a private English teacher since university. She has worked as a kindergarten teacher at OLIFANT Yogyakarta. She also worked as an English teacher at SMP Stella Duce I Yogyakarta. Apart from teaching jobs, she has also had various other jobs, including working for the Rotary Club. She feels very lucky to have had so many great experiences as well as the opportunity to travel around Java. So feel free to ask her anything about working and travelling – she can tell you all her secret knowledge! In October 2014, she started working at IELC.

ALBERT YUWONO

Hometown : SALATIGA, INDONESIA

Albert had a memorable childhood in Salatiga. He moved to Solo in 2003 and enrolled at Sebelas Maret University to study English Literature. While studying at university, he also worked part-time as an English teacher, liaison officer, radio announcer, and master of ceremony. In 2010, Albert graduated from university with a Bachelor’s Degree specializing in Translation Studies. Then, in 2011, he decided to go back to the campus to pursue his Master’s Degree at UNS Postgraduate Program.

ERLYSA SURYANTO

Hometown : JAKARTA, INDONESIA

Joined IELC : 2016

Erlysa joined IELC in 2016. Teaching has always been her passion since she was in high school. She didn’t realize it until she actually joined the teaching world. Despite being a computer science graduate, her professional experiences were mainly from teaching English. Before joining IELC, she worked in Jakarta as a language trainer focusing mainly on Business English for specific purposes. Thus, she dealt with students from various backgrounds and she learned how to customize her approach.

“Moving to teach in Solo has been a big step for me and I am enjoying every step of it. At IELC, I get to meet students from various ages and it makes teaching even more fun!”

Hi, my name is Maya. I love learning English and making friends. I graduated from the English Department of Satya Wacana Christian University in 2012 and I taught English back in my hometown Salatiga. For me, teaching is a joy because I can make new friends and share fascinating insights with my students in class. I enjoy listening to the Beatles, watching comedies and reading detective novels in my leisure time.

Hi! This is Uswa. I live in Sukoharjo. I have a bachelor degree in English language and Literature from Universitas Sebelas Maret. I was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to pursue my master’s degree in the US. I also completed a TESOL (Teaching English for Speakers of Other Languages) certification while there. I taught for 3 years at UNS Language Center.
